Pharmacotherapeutic group: Anticonvulsant & Antimanic
Therapeutic indication: Epilepsy (absence seizure, mixed seizure, complex partial seizure, myoclonic seizure, simple partial seizure, tonic-clonic seizure) & Bipolar disorder (manic episodes) & Prophylaxis migraine headaches
Dosage and Administration: Tablet 200mg
Anticonvulsant:
Adult:
Monotherapy: Oral; initially, 5 to 10mg/kg/day; the dosage being increased at one-week intervals by 5 to 10mg/kg/day as needed and tolerated.
Polytherapy: Oral; initially, 10 to 30mg/kg/day; the dosage being increased at one-week intervals by 5 to 10mg/kg/day as needed and tolerated.
If the total daily dose exceeds 250mg, it should be divided into two or more doses. The maximum recommended dosage is 60mg/kg/day.
Pediatric 1 to 12 years:
Monotherapy: Oral; initially, 15 to 45mg/kg/day; the dosage being increased at one-week intervals by 5 to 10mg/kg/day as needed and tolerated.
Polytherapy: Oral, 30 to 100mg/kg/day
Side effect: Abdominal or stomach cramps, anorexia, change in menstrual periods, diarrhea, hair loss, indigestion, nausea and vomiting, trembling of hands and arms, unusual weight loss or gain, ataxia, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, skin rash, unusual excitement, restlessness, irritability, increased in frequency of seizures, blurred vision
