Dihydroergotamine Mesylate

Generic name: Dihydroergotamine Mesylate
Pharmacotherapeutic group: Vascular headache suppressant & Ergot derivative
Therapeutic indication: Treatment of vascular headache such as migraine and cluster headache & Thrombosis prophylaxis adjunct & Antihypotensive
Dosage and Administration: Tablet 2.5mg & Injection 1mg/1ml
Acute migraine or cluster headache: Adult, IM or SC 1mg at the start of the attack. May be repeated in one hour, if needed, the maximum recommended daily dose is 3mg.
IV 0.5mg at the start of the attack; May be repeated in one hour, if needed, the maximum recommended daily dose is 2mg.
Oral; 1 or 2 tabs at the start of the attack, followed by an additional 1 or 2 tabs at intervals of at least 30 min up to a total of 4 tabs/d.
Pediatric 6 years of age and older: IM or SC 0.5mg at the start of the attack. Maybe repeated in one hour, if needed.
IV 0.25mg at the start of the attack; May be repeated in one hour, if needed.
Side effect: Cardiovascular effects (coronary vasospasm, chest pain, fast or slow heartbeat, localized edema, increase or decrease in blood pressure, rapid or weak pulse, cerebral ischemia), dryness of mouth, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, peripheral vascular effects, mild and lasting 1 hour or less (cold fingers or toes, itching of skin, numbness or tingling of fingers or toes, weakness in the legs)

Ergotamine Compound

Generic name: Ergotamine Compound
Pharmacotherapeutic group: Vascular headache suppressant & Ergot derivative
Therapeutic indication: Treatment of vascular headache such as migraine and cluster headache & Antihistamine
Dosage and Administration: Tablet 2mg of ergotamine tartrate and 100mg of caffeine and 50mg of cyclizine hydrochloride.
Vascular headache suppressant: Adult; Oral, 1 or 2 tabs at the start of the attack, followed by an additional 1 tab at intervals of at least 30 min up to a total of 4 tabs/d. The total weekly dose should not exceed 6 tabs.
Pediatric 6 to 12 years: Oral, one-half tab initially, May be repeated one or two times, if necessary, up to a total of 1.5 tabs/d.
Pediatric up to 6 years: Use is not recommended

Cluster headache prophylaxis: Adult; Oral, 1 or 2 tabs one to three times a day, one or two hours prior to the time that attacks usually occur.
